Praised by critics as “a pianist who is truly passionate, sensitive, and musical… an extremely polished and expressive pianist,” Young Kim has performed internationally as soloist in recital and with orchestra, in addition to appearing numerous times as a chamber musician.  Her many recital venues include Steinway Hall in New York City, Ted Mann Concert Hall in Minneapolis, Lotte Lehmann Concert Hall in Santa Barbara, Memorial Chapel in Schenectady, and Troy Music Hall in Troy, NY, as well as many concert halls in South Korea.  In Russia Ms. Kim appeared as soloist with the Capella Orchestra in Saint Petersburg, performing Beethoven’s “Emperor” Concerto to great acclaim.  Since moving to the Capital District, she has performed as soloist three times with the Union College Orchestra and with the Wind Ensemble of The College of Saint Rose in a performance of Stravinsky’s Concerto for Piano and Winds.

Most recently, Ms. Kim performed Gershwin Concerto in F with Schenectady Symphony Orchestra at Proctor's Theater and received the following review from Schenectady Daily Gazette: "Gershwin's Piano Concerto in F received a sparkling performance from Young Kim... Kim gave a poetic interpretation with well sung melodies, clean technique, and a pacing that allowed her to shape the music into delicately shaped arches. Her playing showed much thought, and she controlled every note and nuance. Her audience jumped to its feet with elation."

Young Kim holds a Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Minnesota, an Artist Diploma from Yale University, a Master of Music from The Juilliard School, and her Bachelor of Music from Seoul National University.  Her principal teachers were Lydia Artymiw, Peter Frankl, Joseph Raieff, Yin Cheng-Zong, Kye Sook Suh, and Young Bok Kay.  Previously a member of the faculty of the University of California at Santa Barbara and Union College in Schenectady, NY, Dr. Kim has recently been appointed Assistant Professor of Piano at The College of Saint Rose in Albany, NY.
